Dust in Evolution – A Lama's Reincarnation
YEAR: 2006
LOCATION: Painted Bride Art Center, Philadelphia
I performed this site-specific piece in Painted Bride Art Center, Philadelphia for my solo exhibition in 2007. Repeating silhouettes of a Lama's figure are carved out from the art center's wall. Every layer peeled from the wall resembles a cycle of life – a reincarnation of this person’s life. Below each figure, the cut-off scraps are carefully collected and stored in a small plastic bag. Each figure becomes a visual narrative on its own with its own story, a story left up to the viewer to discern.
After the exhibition is finished, as a part to completing this piece, I repainted and repaired the art center's wall into white again.
